Abstract

This is a book I was eager to read. I have long been an admirer of Peter Pierce's writing, and the subject of the study—the trope of the lost child within Australian narrative—is a rich and fascinating one. Also, I will admit to retaining enormous sympathy with what is still a relatively slim but valuable Australian literature which attempts to investigate and explain broad cultural patterns through the close analysis of key textual forms and their cultural contexts. For much of its length, this is such a project.
