Abstract
This book describes clearly the many opportunities and challenges in the emerging area of network communications applied in vehicles, as well as traffic infrastructures. Specific topics in the area include internet access and vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication or vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communication. The main objective is the enhancement of the driving experience, the efficient management of the traffic incidents, the information dissemination and the improvement of the safety levels for drivers, motorists and pedestrians. Nowadays, the computing power has substantially increased, enabling vehicles to receive and process real time information, incorporating devices like radar, LIDAR, infrared sensors, camera and communication systems. However, the path between objectives and successful application has numerous challenges that need to be addressed.
