Abstract

Midurethral needle suspensions were introduced in 1995 by Ulmsten and Petros. The tremendous success of the Tension Free Vaginal Sling can be attributed to its clinical effectiveness. However, its ease of use and low complication rate secondary to the used synthetic material has generated an explosion in the use of autologous grafts and needle suspension techniques in the treatment of incontinence and prolapse. Techniques to insert implants used for the treatment of incontinence, prolapse of the anterior, middle and posterior vaginal compartment are the subject of this review.
