Abstract

The paper presents an overview of power systems restoration and it reviews various restoration strategies to cater for large scale power failures and total systems blackout. The restoration strategies, which are implemented through an expert system and mathematical and algorithmic methods, are discussed and analysed. The structure of a realtime knowledge-based restoration system that integrates data acquisition, a user interface, a simulator, power systems analysis and optimisation is proposed. A multiobjective hierarchical approach comprising urgent actions, predefined plans, feasible plans and optimal plans for proper systems restoration is introduced. A flexible user interface which provides fast and effective aid for the operators is suggested.
