Abstract
ABSTRACT Since the beginning of China's urban economic reform, the government has always pointed out that the crucial task of this reform was to stimulate large and medium- sized enterprises. However, compared with six years ago, most large and medium- sized state-owned enterprises have poor vigor today. Meanwhile, China's village and township enterprises have been developing quickly. Especially in Guangdong Province, the development of these enterprises not only boosted the rural economy, but also poured new power into the economic development of Guangdong Province. This paper reviews the development of Guangdong's village and township enterprises. The purpose is to probe the experience gained and lessons learned. The paper describes the challenges and opportunities faced by the enterprises. Also, it suggests countermeasures to help the enterprises become more highly developed.
