Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1970, Vol 15(11), 700. Reviews the book, Mothers in Poverty: A Study of Fatherless Families by Louis Kriesberg (1970). This book is based upon data collected for a study of public housing and social mobility. It attempts to explain the way of life of poor people and to understand the culture of poverty, with detailed consideration of factors contributing to the intergenerational transmission of poverty.
