It gives context for the continuation of ongoing research or inspires new research ideas.In general, a literature evaluation aids in the identification of research gaps. This research paper presents a systematic study of components, methodologies and applications of various expert systems introduced in the diverse range of sectors. This paper surveys the development of expert systems through the study of various research articles related to the expert system methodologies, applications, and components that include knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation schemes, inference engines, learning tools etc.
