Abstract

This is a pre-eminent collection of essays in honour and memory of the late Professor Peter Birks, one of the greatest scholars in the common law world. Birks's indefatigable and inspiring passion for the law, education and is legendary. No mention of legal taxonomy would fail to trigger in one's mind the teaching of Birks. Hence the very apt title of Mapping the Law. This collection of essays demonstrates that Peter Birks is dearly missed and his legacy will live long in many jurisdictions, influencing many areas of law. In addition to enthusiastically recommending this volume, this reviewer also suggests exploring the publication of a companion volume collating Birks's publications in book chapters, scholarly journals and other places. For generations to come, Birks's writings will be a godsend which should be made as widely and readily available as possible, thereby keeping Birks's teachings alert, alive and undiminished.
