Abstract

The aim of this paper is to survey the state-of-the-art of injury biomechanics in vehicle-pedestrian collisions, including the dynamic responses, injury mechanisms, tolerance levels, injury criteria and parameters that have relevance for injuries in different loading conditions. A condensed overview is given based on the published and ongoing studies in pedestrian injury biomechanics. The need for future research on pedestrian injury prevention is presented.
