Abstract

Intraoperative dural plaque allows high dose of radiation to be delivered to the dura, while the rapid dose drop off allows for sparing of the spinal cord. Dural plaques are especially useful in treatment of spinal sarcomas, because of the high dose required to control the diseases, and the difficult anatomy with the tumors often abutting the dural surfaces. We have identified 51 patients who were prescribed dural plaque brachytherapy. The diseases treated were chordoma (28), chondrosarcoma (7), osteosarcoma (6), other sarcomas (10), and other malignancies (2).
