Abstract
Recent results on event shapes in e + e − annihilations are summarized. The current state of art of α s determinations at the Z boson resonance is reviewed, including new methods using 4-jet observables. Measurements of α s at highest centre-of-mass energies up to 200 GeV are combined into a new average. The experimental investigations of non-perturbative power law corrections are summarized. Oriented event shapes are discussed. Latest results of tests of the flavour independence are given.
