Abstract

Five eastern Pacific fishes of the genus Haemulon are described, their color pattern illustrated, and a key presented for identification of juveniles and adults. Lythrulon and Orthostoechus are synonymized with Haemulon. Haemulon scudderi, Haemulon sexfasciatum, Haemulon flaviguttatum and Haemulon maculicauda are found exclusively in the Pacific while Haemulon steindachneri occurs in the Atlantic and the Pacific. Lectotypes are designated for Haemulon scudderi and Haemulon sexfasciatum.
