Abstract

This paper provides a preliminary overview of Chinese agricultural policy. Several unique features affecting China’s production, consumption, and trading patterns are reviewed in order to better understand and anticipate how China’s agri-food sector might change in the coming years. The study looks at China’s economic and agricultural characteristics and reviews the evolution of its agricultural policy reforms and recent policy developments. The study closes with remarks on the challenges and prospects for China’s agriculture and implications for Canada.
