Abstract

China southern power grid (CSG) is divided into two independent power zones by asynchronous interconnection technology to avoid the multi-loop DC block faults and the following stability problem caused by traditional AC and LCCHVDC synchronous interconnection. The necessity of asynchronous interconnection and the actual structure of CSG are analyzed. However, the imbalance between the small grid scale and the large electricity transmission amount on the sending side has arisen a new frequency stability problem. This paper serves as a review of asynchronous interconnection technology and mainly discuss frequency limited control (FLC) method and high frequency generator tripping method as two solutions to solve the DC block faults. Remaining problems and future research directions of asynchronous interconnection project are summarized, which would be valuable for future research work.
