Review of *A.G. Stephens: Selected Writings* edited by Leon Cantrell

Abstract

Leon Cantrell's selection of the writings of A. G. Stephens is, of course, a welcome volume to the student of Australian literature. The volume makes it easy, by reference to the contents or the ample index, to consult A. G. S. on almost any Australian writer of his period as well as some European and American writers. To the reader interested in Stephens himself or in his development the selection is of less use. If includes none of Stephens' early critical writings such as his papers for the Gympie Literary Circle on Moliére, Marlowe, Thackeray and others which Cantrell tantalisingly reminds us are to be found in the Mitchell Library.
