Abstract
Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1992, Vol 37(8), 827. Reviews the book, Adult Clinical Problems: A Cognitive-Behavioral Approach edited by Windy Dryden and Robert Rentoul (see record 1991-98538-000). This volume by Dryden and Rentoul gives a systematic coverage of adult clinical problems and their treatment from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. The clinical problems addressed and that make up all but one of the chapters are anxiety; depression, anger and violence, eating disorders, alcohol and drug problems; schizophrenia, problems of the elderly, mental handicap, and interpersonal, marital, family, and sexual problems. Each chapter is written to show how a particular problem is conceptualized, assessed, and treated from a cognitive behavioral point of view. The editors have written this book to meet the educational needs of advanced undergraduates and graduate students in clinical psychology, which it should do quite nicely.
