This is why Jennifer Lisa Koslow’s Public History: An Introduction from Theory to Application, is a welcome contribution. Although the publishers may have overstated the case that it “is the first text of its kind to offer both historical background…and instruction on current practices of public history,” it joins very thin ranks (quotation from the back cover). Other than Thomas Cauvin’s Public History: A Textbook of Practice (2016; second edition 2022), those who teach public history have mostly had to rely on edited collections or create course packs of their own.
