Her lecture to the San Francisco League of Women Voters was well attended, but fair-goers never got a chance to visit the family planning exhibition. It was taken down because Roman Catholic men and women strenuously objected to what they regarded as an unacceptable cultural event. Sanger complained about having been cancelled by her Catholic opposition during an interview with Sue Barry, a columnist for the Communist Party newspaper People’s World, but Los Angeles Catholic activist Anna E. McCaughey celebrated the removal of the exhibition. It was another victory in the campaign to make California public policy conform to Catholic principles.
