Abstract
In the present review, the research progress of the plant Pedalium murex Linn. has been rationalized in the diverse aspects of studies like its cytomorphology, traditional uses, pharmacognostic studies, and phytochemical studies, biological studies, etc. In the modern era, the consumption of herbal medicines has amplified greatly due to their effective results. Therefore, it is essential to develop herbal medicine like more effective drugs with fewer side effects and determine their efficacy. Pedalium murex is one of the traditional medicinal plants that belong to the family, Pedaliaceae, a magical source of many bioactive compounds like terpenoids, lipids, phenolic acids, steroids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, vitamins, carbohydrates, reducing sugars, proteins, etc. with a variety of biological activities viz. antioxidant, antihyperlipidemic, neuroprotective, nephroprotective, anti-nephrolithiasis, aphrodisiac, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antimicrobial antiproliferative, insecticidal, hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, etc. It is widely distributed in tropical Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, and Mexico. In this review, all the scientific findings of Pedalium murex are explored from Google Scholar, Google web, Science Direct, Pubmed, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Abstracts (MAPA), etc. This review will be very fruitful for those scientists who are doing or planning to do research work on this plant.
