Abstract

Two recent step-down DC-DC converter topologies: switched-inductor-capacitor buck converter (SICBC) and 3-level buck converter (3LBC), are theoretically analyzed and compared with the conventional buck converter (CBC), in terms of inductor current ripple, efficiency, and output voltage ripple performances in this paper. Simulation results are provided to verify the theoretical analysis, in which the CBC obtains fair power efficiency with fair output voltage ripple. The SICBC obtains the highest power efficiency under heavy load condition, but the largest output voltage ripple. The 3LBC obtains the highest power efficiency under light load condition as well as the smallest output voltage ripple.
