Magliari is Professor of History at California State University, Chico, and a co-author of the new fifth edition of the college textbook, The Elusive Eden: A New History of California (2020). He is also co-author (with Michael J. Gillis) of John Bidwell and California: The Life and Writings of a Pioneer (2003). Magliari’s current research focuses on the history of Native American slavery and bound servitude in California during the gold rush and Civil War eras.
