Abstract

Electrochemical principles have been systematically introduced into graphite intercalation processes. Current-voltage curves indicate very fast charge transfer processes and a limited rate of diffusion of intercalants in the graphite crystal. The influence of electrolyte concentration has been studied for the first time. Corrosion is discussed in terms of Wagner-Traud theory. A practical application of a graphite salt electrode as a positive in a lead/graphite accumulator is investigated.
