Abstract

Summary This paper deals with the application of hydraulic counter pressure and its radial pushing to reverse redrawing for improving drawing limit. In the present work the first drawing was carried out in a usual and mechanical process and followed by the reverse drawing in which specimens are subjected to hydraulic counter pressure on punch bottom part and peripheral rim. These pressures act very effective on the increase in drawing limit and the suppressing of cracking on the wall of drawn shells. Moreover the proposed method added such good feature as the reduction of frictional resistance between die or blank holder surface and the each specimen surface by leaking of pressurized fluid. In the experiment of the drawing test using aluminum sheet of 0.8mm thickness, a total drawing ratio of 4.9 was obtained by a combination of 2.1 by mechanical drawing and 2.3 by subsequent reverse drawing under fluid pressure.
