Abstract

In this study, the micro-mechanism of texture evolution during free-end torsion and its influence on compressive behavior were investigated. The results showed that torsion deformation can generate a new twin-orientation and cause c-axes of parent grains to rotate toward B-fiber. With increasing torsion shear strain, a certain split of the main component in {0002} pole figure became very obvious. Such split of texture was mainly related to the selective consumption of parent grains by {10–12} twinning. Torsion deformation significantly enhanced compressive yield strength and slightly improved plasticity. The increase in yield strength can be attributed to dislocation hardening and twin-boundary hardening. Moreover, strain hardening behavior is discussed in detail to reveal deformation mechanism of twisted rod.
