Abstract

The paper presents the technology for reusing high-alumina porcelain waste (HAPW, C130-type) incoming during the production of high-voltage insulators. This waste includes defective products after firing and dismantled old and worn insulators, replaced for various reasons. The HAPW material should be reused because of its uniqueness compared to other ceramic materials and its high economic value. Preliminary studies have shown that the HAPW powder is a non-sinterable material up to 1500 °C and a high degree of sintering is achieved above 1650 °C. The presented work describes the developed technology leading to obtaining a material with high parameters for utility and technical ceramics. Importantly, after the addition of calcium-based mineraliser (Ca-flux), the firing temperature was lowered to 1250–1300 °C. The new materials meet the technical standards for C130-type porcelain insulators, including electrical breakdown strength. This material can be used to produce small electrical insulating products such as; hollow insulators, indoor and outdoor or transformer bushings, as well as ceramic knives, heat-resistant dishes, and many more.
