Abstract

Former NASA Astronaut Harrison Schmitt, the only geologist to walk on the moon, presents a compelling case for returning man to the moon. Using fusion energy development as the economic driving force, he lays out a detailed program for human settlement of the moon, with centers of science and commerce to be later used as jump-off outposts for future Mars expeditions. He advocates a sustained commitment of human presence and exploration in deep space.
