Abstract

Transposition activity of Drosophila melanogaster gypsy retrotransposon is controlled by the flamenco locus. Transposition activity of the gypsy, ZAM, Idefix, springer, nomad, rover, Quasimodo, 17.6, 297, and Tirant retrotransposons was investigated in isogenic SS and MS strains of D. melanogaster mutant for the flamenco gene. It has been shown that gypsy, ZAM, and Idefix have different genomic surrounding in the studied strains that evidences to their transposition in these strains.
