Abstract
The Irish experimental physiologist Ronan G. O'Regan has made a substantial contribution to the field of autonomic control of the carotid body. This brief retrospective has been written by one of his former students, one of many to whom the beauty of Nature's design has been revealed through O'Regan's lectures and scientific papers. I shall describe some of his experiments that were performed from 1965 to 1981 in this historical sketch.
