Abstract

Objective To describe metallic intraocular foreign body (MIOFB) and analyse the related factor of visual prognosis. Methods 83 cases(83 eyes) with MIOFB from January 2005 to December 2010 were reviewed for clinical characteristics, surgical intervention, therapeutic effect and analysed by single and multiple factor methods. Results The age of patients were 7-79 years old with a male predominance (91.57%).The postoperative vision were 0.1 or better in 37 cases(44.58%).T test showed that smaller injury length(P =0.039) and smaller age(P =0.001) of patient had good visual prognosis.x2 test showed that good visual prognosis was assoiated with initial vision,IFOB location, lens and iris were normal or not.Multiple factors analysis showed that visual outcome was associated with age of patient, initial VA,normal lens or not. Conclusion Multiple prognostic factors are identified in this analysis of metallic intraocular foreign body injuries, which may help predict visual outcome, and help us to choose effective treatments.
