Abstract

A 29-year-old woman underwent resection of a left occipital lobe dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor 12 years prior to evaluation. Visual acuity was 20/20 in each eye with normal ophthalmoscopic examination. Automated perimetry demonstrated a right homonymous hemianopsia. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a resection cavity within the left occipital lobe. Ganglion cell complex analysis demonstrated a left homonymous hemi-macular thinning. Although once thought to not be possible in adults, lesions posterior to the lateral geniculate nucleus can result in retinal changes from the loss of trophic signals incited by neuronal injury to connecting neurons, leading to retinal ganglion cell death (Magnified version of Figure 1 is available online at www.aaojournal.org).
