Serkowski, K. ; Frecker, J. E. ; Heacox, W. D. ; Kenknight, C. E. ; Roland, E. H. Abstract The spectrometer built to search for extrasolar planets was used to measure a difference in radial velocity between limb and terminator of Venus, as indicated by Fraunhofer lines around 4260 A, a much shorter wavelength than those used in previous spectroscopic measurements. The observations indicate a retrograde rotation of Venus's stratosphere with (39 i 6) m 1 velocity.
