Abstract

National Institute of Meteorological Research at Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA/NIMR) has developed a mesoscale atmospheric motion vector (AMV) retrieval algorithm from Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) which is the first Korean geostationary satellite located in 128.2°E. The mesoscale AMVs retrieved from three images of 1 km resolution visible (0.67 μm). To filter high quality vectors from COMS mesoscale AMVs, the threshold values of quality indicator (QI) and expected error (EE) are investigated. The accuracy of COMS mesoscale AMVs compared with radiosonde wind is in the reasonable range when consider the accuracy of NWCSAF HRW. This result suggeststhat COMS mesoscale AMVs could utilize having quality.
