Abstract
In order to investigate the influence near-fault ground motion (NFGM) on seismic performance of the elastic restraint system (ERS) and the viscous damper system (VDS) of cable-stayed bridge (CSB). A number of NFGMs from different earthquake events were selected as excitations. The nonlinear time history analysis are carried out based on the finite element model of a long span CSB. The seismic analysis studies show NFGMs of the ChiChi earthquake lead to larger seismic response than the Imperial Valley earthquake. The NFGMs with large velocity pulse may enlarge both the internal force and deformation response of the ERS and VDS. The VDS can always get a better performance than the floating system (FS) under NFGMs from different earthquake events. However, the ERS may cause larger internal forces responses when suffered from NFGMs of ChiChi earthquake with or without velocity pulse.
