Abstract

Mitral regurgitation (MR) is the most common valvular heart disease in developed countries because of the aging populations. Percutaneous intervention for MR has been established as an alternative treatment to surgical mitral valve (MV) repair in patients with high surgical risks. Percutaneous edge-to-edge MV repair using the MitraClip system (Abbott, Menlo Park, CA, USA) is currently indicated for primary and secondary MR in Japan. For transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)-guided intervention, knowledge of TEE is essential for the success of the procedure. Here, we review the role of intraprocedural TEE in MV repair using the MitraClip system.
