She obtained her PhD by submitting a doctoral thesis on ‘Imagining “Muslim” identity: An interpretive study of Hindi cinema’, in 2016 from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. She completed her M.Phil (2008–2010) on ‘Electronic Media and Public Issues: A Study of Mediation’ in School of Media and Cultural Studies, Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai. Her research interests are on Muslim identity, film studies, popular culture, Indian cinema and media representation.
