Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia is the most nutritional disorder within the world. Iron deficiency is a state in which there is not enough iron in the body to maintain normal physiological functions. The more severe phases of Iron deficiency are associated with anemia (WHO 2001). The study was done owing to diagnose IDA and explore the corporation with the erythropoietin and iron status simultaneously hematological parameters among primary school pupils in Ranya district/Kurdistan region—Northern Iraq. A total of 38 patients have been diagnosed with IDA and 38 healthy subjects were universal within the project. Total blood calculation, iron status (ferritin, serum iron, TIBC, UIBC in addition to TS), and serum erythropoietin hormone were estimated. The result showed a significant (P < 0.001) decrease in Hb, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC ferritin, iron, and TS in IDA patients as to the control group. Finally, we investigated that there were a significant negative interconnection among serum EPO with RBC, Hb and HCT, ferritin, iron, and TS in IDA, while significant positively correlated with RDW, PLT, TIBC, and UIBC. In addition, serum ferritin was significantly positively correlated with RBC, Hb, HCT, iron, and TS in IDA; otherwise, a significant increase in RDW, PLT, and serum EP, and a significant increase in RDW, PLT, serum EPO, TIBC, and UIBC in IDA compared to control group were observed.
