Abstract

Abstract In this paper, ZrO2 based Metal-organic frameworks (MOF)-808 was synthesized by a sol-gel method, and amidoxime (AO) functional groups were subsequently grafted to the MOF-808 surface by a wet chemistry process. The existence of AO groups on the MOF-808 surface was determined by FT-IR. The Hg(II) adsorption efficiency of MOF-808 and MOF-808/AO was investigated in Hg(II) aqueous solution. The impacts of solution pH, solution temperature, adsorption time and initial Hg(II) concentrations were investigated. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of MOF-808/AO (383.8 mg/g) was increased from MOF-808 (343.6 mg/g) by 11.7%, which could be attributed to the formation of a complex with strong bonding interactions between AO groups and Hg(II) ions in MOF-808/AO.
