Abstract

Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the attitudes of senior teacher candidates towards the education of gifted students. Material and Methods: The sample of the research group constitutes the 4th grade 211 teacher candidate for preschool education, psychological counseling and guidance education and classroom education, which was educated at Agri Ibrahim Cecen University in the fall academic semester of 2018-2019. In this research, relational screening model which is a type of screening model is used. As a data collection tool, the personal data form with demographic characteristics of teacher candidates and Attitude Scale towards Gifted Education (ASGE) which adapted by Tortop (2014) were used. Results: According to the results of the study, the most sensitive part of the education of the gifted students is the teacher candidates in the psychological counseling and guidance education department. The responsiveness of teacher candidates who continue their preschool education and classroom education departments is positive. According to the One-Way Variance (ANOVA) test results, there was a significant difference between preschool education and psychological counseling and guidance education departments in the needs and support dimension of gifted individuals. Conclusion: The attitudes of pre-service teachers attending the Psychological and Guidance Counseling, Pre-School Education and Class Education Departments have a positive attitude towards the education of gifted students but the positive level is not high. When they enter working life, teacher candidates, who will be responsible for the education of gifted children, need to increase their equipment training. For this purpose, it is recommended to add a course about gifted children to the curriculum, and to increase their in-service training programs and equipment.
