Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between computer experiences and computer attitudes of student teachers. The sample is consisted of 301 fourth year student teachers from 8 different majors of Marmara University Ataturk Education Faculty in 2003- 2004 academic year. The data were collected by using a questionnaire for the computer experiences and Computer Attitude Scale- Marmara (CAS-M) for the computer attitudes of student teachers. The data were analysed by using descriptive and correlational statistical techniques. Some of the major findings are as follows: (a) Majority of student teachers had no computer courses in their primary education (96,3%) and secondary education (73,8%); (b) Computers had not been widely used for other purposes in teaching/learning processes in student teachers’ lessons in primary (99,3%) and secondary (88,0%) education levels; (c) On the other hand 84,7% of student teachers had a computer course during their university education and 43,9% of them reported that computers had been used for some other purposes in their lessons; (d) 50,3% of student teachers have computers at home; (e) Computer attitudes of student teachers were found to be moderate; (f) No significant differences were found between computer attitudes and sex, having INTERNET connection at home, having a computer lesson in primary education and in university, computer use for other purposes in primary education; (g) Significant differences were found between computer attitudes and, having computer lessons in secondary education, computer use in the classroom for other purposes (beside teaching computers) in secondary education and in university; (h) Significant differences were found between self efficacy and computer attitudes.
