Abstract

Growth in the retirement housing industry has created concerns regarding the training and certification of retirement housing professionals. The primary purpose of this project was to establish a better understanding of the status of training and certification of retirement housing professionals at the state level in the United States. A systematic study was conducted to obtain information in four areas: (1) certification and training requirements in each state for retirement housing professionals; (2) knowledge about agencies which are currently conducting training for retirement housing professionals; (3) opinions of those working with housing for the elderly regarding credentialing requirements for housing professionals; and (4) knowledge about the familiarity of housing professionals with current housing associations which offer training.
