Abstract
Metabolic nuclear receptor is related to glucose,lipid and energy metabolism which consists of a group of nuclear hormone receptor transcription factors including peroxisome proliferators activated receptors (PPARs) ,liver X activated receptors (LXRs)and farnesoid X activated receptors (FXRs). More and more evidences show metabolic nuclear receptor not only participates in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome(MS) ,but also is the molecular target for the treatment of MS. Retinoid X receptors(RXRs) forms heterodimer with other metabolic nuclear receptors, thereby they can regulate the transcription of target genes and a number of essential biological processes. Recently, it is showed that retinoids, and their receptors are associated with obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, lipid dysfunction, and hypertension. This article reviews the correlation between retinoids,their receptors and MS. Key words: Retinoids; Retinoid receptor; Metabolic syndrome
