Abstract
The book, Retinal Detachment Surgery , is the result of a postgraduate symposium for Nordic ophthalmologists, held at Gothenburg, Sweden, in December 1964, dealing with retinal detachment problems. These lectures, reproduced in slightly edited form, portray the recent advances in retinal surgery that have been applied at the University Clinics. The subjects include discussions about the anatomy, biochemistry, and pathology of retinal detachment, as well as the methods of ophthalmoscopy currently available. Separate chapters deal with the laser and the Xenon-arc photocoagulators, and the place of diathermy in retinal surgery. The electroretinagram intraocular pressure, and visual fields, during retinal detachment, are discussed thoroughly, with reference to other investigations in this area. The entire book is written concisely in a well-planned manner. The advantages and disadvantages of various methods of treatment of retinal detachment are elaborated, and the most acceptable procedure is usually recommended by the author. It must be noted that
