Abstract

A 19-year-old woman presented with vaso-occlusive retinopathy associated with systemic lupus erythematosus. Baseline fluorescein angiography revealed capillary nonperfusion (Fig A). At 3 months, OCT angiography showed arteriolar occlusion, which had been previously perfused (Fig A, B, arrows). At 8 months, arteriogenesis was initiated in a direction different to that at baseline (Fig C, arrowheads). At 24 months, the arteriogenesis continued to extend, and the new arteriole formed an anastomosis with a pre-existing arteriole and a new bifurcation (Fig D, magnified).
