Abstract

Retinal cavernous hemangioma is a rare congenital disorder, a unilateral hamartoma of the retina. Patients are often asymptomatic or may present with decreased vision from vitreous hemorrhage or macular involvement. There is usually a good prognosis for visual acuity. Most patients have no positive family history but in 20% of patients, particularly with bilateral or intracranial involvement, autosomal dominant inheritance is detected. We report a young female with unilateral cavernous hemangioma of the peripheral retina with mild vitreous hemorrhage, associated with cerebral cavernomas and hemorrhagic stroke.
