Abstract

Examination of the endometrium from 70 uteri in successive stages of the menstrual cycle and from various physiologic and abnormal states reveals marked variations in the amounts of and arrangements of reticulum and collagen. Increases in reticulum occur during the proliferative and secretory phases of the cycle, in pregnancy, and in states where menstrual activity is in abeyance, as in endometrial hyperplasia or atrophy, or in polyps. Sarcomas of the endometrium contain much reticulum. Dense fibrous collagen is rarely found in the endometrium.
