Abstract

This chapter describes a new and compelling role for hospitals and health systems as anchor institutions. Representing significant economic and human capital resources, anchor institutions are grounded, sound business practices, and in the realities of the local communities they serve, they are well placed to effectively align, leverage, and invest resources to improve the health of their communities.
