Abstract

In a recent study (World-wide Fund for Nature, hereafter WWF, 1999a and b; Fienet al., 2001 &2002) which involved research into the effectiveness of educationalprovision across the WWF international network, the relationship between informationprovision, communication, education, and capacity-building was exploredand a model proposed. Based on continuing work with WWF and others, thisarticle critically examines this model and proposes changes which acknowledgethe centrality of learning within the capacity-building process, and locate capacitybuildingitself within the wider socioeconomic context.
