Abstract
‘Rethinking collections: approaches, business models, experiences’: the UKSG One-Day Conference, November 2012
Highlights
The UKSG One-Day Conference consisted of six presentations on differing aspects of collection development
For those who were not able to attend, Insights persuaded three of the speakers to write a brief summary of their presentation, in which they focus on the themes of ‘the consortial collection’, ‘the library-facilitated collection’ and ‘the discovered collection’
The remaining three presentations came from Robert Faber (Oxford University Press), looking at how reference materials add value to library collections, from Maxim van Gisbergen (Swets), looking at how libraries can use data to inform evidence-based purchasing, and from Aviva Weinstein (Maverick Publishing Specialists), who took as her theme the increasing use of tablets, mobile technologies and e-textbooks, the so-called portable collection
