Abstract
Year 2015 for India belongs to an era where an urge for being smart has been witnessed, not only for humans but also for the cities. Government of India has made an audacious effort by choosing 100 cities from all over the country and aiming at making them smart. The concept of Smart Cities is in its infant stage. Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has come up with strategies to make cities smart. This paper emphasizes on the need to make management of greenbelts a part of Smart City strategy, as they balance the ill effect of urbanization. The paper brings forth a comparative study of Ahmedabad’s greenbelt with the greenbelts of London, Ottawa, Seoul and Chandigarh with special emphasis on their width, percent area with respect to city, Satellite towns, authority ownership, land management and methods of reservation.
