Abstract

Methods of resuscitation of neonates are generally based on expert opinions and intuition, and relate to guidelines for adults or paediatric resuscitation. Results of multicentre randomised trials have, however, recently exposed some commonly used methods as ineffective. As such, I found comparing the conclusions of the meta-analysis published on Oct 9 (p 1329)1 on this topic with the one2 previously published by the same authors in the Cochrane Database confusing—the objectives, methods, eligibility criteria, exclusion criteria, number of identified eligible studies, number of patients enrolled in all studies and counted for various outcomes, and effect estimates of the various outcomes were similar, but the conclusions different.
